The Jimny Nomad 5-door: what it is and how to get one in the UK

The five-door Jimny fixes the one thing everybody complains about. It has also never been sold in the UK. Here is what it is and how people are getting hold of them.

340mm that changes everything

The Nomad stretches the Jimny’s wheelbase by 340mm. That buys rear doors, four usable seats, and roughly 126 extra litres of luggage space behind the back row.

On paper that sounds modest. In practice it is the difference between a car you love and a car you can actually run as your only vehicle. The three-door’s rear seats are usable for short journeys by small people; the Nomad’s are ordinary rear seats.

What it does not change

Everything that makes a Jimny a Jimny survives. Ladder-frame chassis, live axles, ALLGRIP PRO four-wheel drive with a proper low-range transfer case. The extra length very slightly reduces the breakover angle, which matters on severe terrain and nowhere else.

The engine is unchanged: the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, driving through a four-speed automatic. Nobody buys a Jimny for its powertrain, and the Nomad does not change that calculation.

Why it isn’t sold here

The same emissions arithmetic that removed the three-door. Suzuki has no route to selling a petrol Jimny of any body style in the UK within current fleet rules. It is not that the Nomad failed to find a market here — it was never offered one.

How UK cars are arriving

Import. Cars are sourced from markets where the Nomad is sold normally, shipped, cleared, approved and registered with the DVLA. A properly imported car has a UK V5C, a UK plate and an mph speedometer, and is road legal exactly like any other car.

The variable is who carries the risk. Buying an already-registered car means the importer has absorbed the currency movement, the shipping delay and any approval surprises.
