4-Seater Jimny

The only Jimny you could legally buy new in the UK was a two-seat van. If you want four seats, you need an import or a conversion. Castle Motors supplies both.

The seats problem, explained

When Suzuki brought the Jimny back to the UK in 2021, it did so through a regulatory side door: reclassified as a Light Commercial Vehicle. Small vans face more lenient emissions targets than passenger cars, and that was the only way the Jimny’s characterful but thirsty 1.5-litre petrol engine could stay on sale.

The price of that reclassification was the rear seats. The LCV is a two-seater with a flat load bay behind the front seats and no rear side windows. For a tradesperson it is a usable small 4×4. For a family, it is a non-starter.

Your three routes to four seats

1. A used pre-2020 passenger Jimny

These exist, and they are genuine four-seat cars. The catch is price and condition: supply is finite and shrinking, so good examples now sell for more than they cost new, often with real mileage on them.

2. A converted three-door

An LCV converted back to four seats using factory-specification seats, belts and mountings. Done properly this is a well-engineered job, and it is how most of our three-door stock is supplied.

3. The five-door Nomad

What to check before you buy a conversion

V5C body type. A properly converted car should reflect its actual configuration on the logbook.
Seat and belt provenance. Factory-specification parts, correctly mounted to the original floor points.
Insurance. Tell your insurer exactly what the vehicle is. A conversion declared up front is straightforward; one discovered at claim time is not.
Who did the work. An established converter with a track record, not an unrecorded home job.
